UFC 308 Fight Cards Analysis and Changes

ufc 308

UFC 308 will take place on October 26, 2024, at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. On the main card, there was supposed to be a fight between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov in the third spot, but that spot is now vacant.

Let’s see which fighters will step up, or maybe a fight from the prelims will be moved to the main card. There were talks recently that Tom Aspinall was supposed to fight Ciryl Gane at UFC 304, but Gane was busy shooting a movie, so he declined the fight. Now, with Gane unavailable and Aspinall being fully healthy, there’s a possibility that Tom Aspinall might jump in and put his interim belt on the line.Tom Aspinall is the official backup fighter for UFC 309 and has been training, and since there’s not much time between UFC 308 and 309, it’s possible he might fight in 308. I just read an update stating that Volkov’s injury isn’t too serious, and the UFC is looking to reschedule the fight between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov at UFC 310, possibly on December 7th. This reduces the chances of Tom Aspinall fighting at UFC 308.

Moving on to the next update, let’s talk about middleweight fighter Khamzat Chimaev. Recently, he rated several fighters, which I found quite interesting. Khamzat was asked to rate 10 fighters on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 means an easy win and 10 means almost impossible. Starting with former middleweight champion Sean Strickland, Khamzat gave their fight a rating of 5, suggesting it would be an easy fight for him. He mentioned that he has already sparred with Sean and beat him, although Sean claims sparring is different from actual fighting.

Next, Khamzat rated a potential fight with former champion Israel Adesanya between 5 and 6, saying he’d take him to the ground and choke him out.

Khamzat also mentioned Leon Edwards, giving their fight a 2, indicating that he believes he would easily defeat Leon. Moving on to welterweight fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov, Khamzat gave that fight a 5, acknowledging that Shavkat has good striking and a solid chin but lacks wrestling skills. As for heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Khamzat gave a rating of 9, suggesting it would be an extremely difficult fight. When asked about fighting both Khabib and Islam Makhachev, Khamzat refused to answer, saying it was a pointless question. Finally, regarding his upcoming fight with former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, Khamzat gave the fight a rating of 3 to 4, expressing confidence in beating Robert easily.

Moving on to another update, let’s talk about light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.  2 days ago, Alex Pereira posted a YouTube video where he mentioned that next week, Sean Strickland would be joining his training camp at high altitude, which is a great addition. Alex will need to push his cardio to keep up with Sean’s pace. Also, in the video, Alex encountered a moose during training, and he jokingly wondered what would happen if the moose decided to attack.
